Practice Taiko

With the use of PVC, packaging tape and other recycled material, we can now practice taiko with affordable instruments. There is always room for improvement, but this is a good start for any beginners. If you are interested, there are DIY Guides for selected designs!

The main purpose of this design is to enable naname practice with proper kata (posture). It annoys me when one has to compensate for ill placement of tire drum, which forces one to practice wrongly. Ultimately, taiko playing is a physical act, we must be careful to not injure ourselves.

Second purpose is to make it very portable, and storage friendly, because many taiko players live in small apartments. It might also be possible for an instructor to easily bring multiple instruments for group class. Though, experience tells me that any class must have at least one real drum.

Lastly, here is a video I edited for Taikothon 2018. It has many footage from the beginning of my design journey since 2015.
